Great Hiking Trips from Brela

If you are arriving at the Makarska Riviera from Split, the first place you will encounter is Brela. This successful tourist destination is widely known for its beautiful beaches, and for those who enjoy active vacations and outdoor activities, there is a whole range of hiking trails and routes. The selection is diverse, from those offering pleasant walks along the sea to real hiking challenges for more serious enthusiasts. Whichever you choose, you will enjoy the wild and preserved nature of Biokovo mountain and the fantastic views of the sea.

If you love romantic and fragrant walks along the sea during which you can also swim, choose the "Lungomare" route. It connects the beautiful Vruja bay with Brela and Baška Voda and is designed to fully discover what makes this part of the Makarska Riviera such an attractive seaside destination.

For those who are more experienced and prepared hikers, choose the "Topići" or "French Road" routes. Both offer somewhat greater hiking challenges and lead you to the slopes of Biokovo with stunning sea views. "Topići" is a circular route that leads from Brela to the village of Topići (and back along the sea to Brela), with a special attraction being the lookout point at the highest point of the route. The "French Road" touches the Biokovo Nature Park and follows the route of an old road built during the Napoleonic Wars.

For even more challenging hiking trip or outdoor adventure, try the "Bukovac", "Pakline" or "Sv. Nikola" routes.

"Bukovac" is a popular and physically demanding route that leads through the beautiful landscape of the Nature Park Biokovo and is intended for recreational hikers, providing enough challenges even for the more experienced, as it passes through authentic mountain landscapes characterized by dry stone walls, Biokovo forests, and challenging rocky terrain where extra caution is needed.

The "Pakline" route also offers a physically challenging hiking experience and an opportunity to enjoy an active vacation, the beauty of untouched nature, panoramic sea views, and unique natural landmarks. This hiking route visits some of the most interesting natural attractions of this part of Biokovo, such as "Nevista's Rock (Bride’s Cliff)" "Biokovo Eye," or the "Pakline" forest, from which it gets its name and offers a truly unique panorama of the mountain and sea.

Finally, the "Sv. Nikola" route, named after the old church, built on one of Biokovo's peaks, is designed for experienced and physically fitter hikers. For the somewhat longer and more demanding ascents to the pass near the natural attraction Bride’s Cliff and the Sv. Nikola church, the reward is unique views of Biokovo, mountain canyons, and the blue Adriatic with the central Dalmatian islands like in the palm of your hand.

Along the routes, you will find the Bukovac mountain lodge, for which prior contact with the Pozjata Mountaineering Association is required, as well as the Pakline mountain shelter, which is always open and available for rest.

These routes are suggestions created according to the wishes and needs of the three main groups of tourist hikers visiting the Makarska Riviera. They are marked, verified, and always passable. Of course, the number of hiking trails on Biokovo is vast, and for all necessary information, it is best to contact the Tourist Office Brela or study the Safe Trails website maintained by the HGSS. We remind you that every step we take in nature carries a responsibility – let's protect it from litter, fires, and destruction. The golden rule is to take back with you any waste you bring to the mountains, and lighting fires or leaving flammable objects behind is strictly prohibited
