Igrane

About the destination

From its origins as an old olive-growing and agricultural village with a rich cultural and historical heritage, Igrane has evolved into a picturesque tourist destination with long and beautiful pebble beaches, numerous apartments, vacation homes, and a hotel. It also stands out for its authentic culinary offerings.

Like all other places on the Riviera, Igrane are still strongly connected to Biokovo. Life along the coast, traditionally, was not popular because the highlands offered fertile land and security, so it's not surprising that the slopes of Biokovo are full of valuable remnants of the past. It is particularly important to mention the 11th-century Church of St. Michael, built like a basilica, remnants of tribal settlements and Illyrian tumuli, the 9th-century Church of St. Spasa, and many other historical remains that testify to the continuity of life and culture from Illyrian times to the present day.

Hmm?
The oldest written document mentioning the village of Igrane dates back to the year 1466, from the pre-Ottoman period. In the document addressed by Duke Stjepan Kosača to the Republic of Venice, the village of Igrane is mentioned, which has about fifty inhabitants.
