Veliki kaštel, built right on the cliffs of Biokovo, is a historic building constructed in the 17th century during the wars with the Ottomans.
The complex underwent thorough restoration and reconstruction in 2019 to accommodate the Interpretation Center under the management of the Makarska City Museum. The Interpretation Center presents and interprets the archaeological, ethnological, and natural heritage of the area in a modern, multimedia way.
The largest part of the center is dedicated to natural heritage, specifically the rich plant diversity of Biokovo, with a special focus on the heritage of the Kotišina botanical garden and the legacy of its founder, Fra Jure Radić.
